Bank Account Apply OnlinePosted on April 27, 2010. I am on H1-B visa and I have a SSN. Am I a resident "or" non-resident alien to apply online bank account? To apply online bank account you must be a U.S. person, including foreign residents. I am on H1-B visa and I have a SSN, U.S. address, etc. (so I can actually apply), but I do not know if my status allows me to do by law. This question has been asked by the bank for tax purposes, so make sure you select the correct state because it could affect your tax liability. Foreigners are considered non-resident aliens and resident aliens by the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services. To be considered a resident alien, the person must meet one of two tests: the green card test or the substantial presence test. While you're in the U.S. legally, you are a resident. Residence simply means the place where you used to sleep at least half the time. It stands to be a citizen. What they refer to as residents of the United States are those that are classified as permanent residents or legally admitted APR's. A visa, regardless of class, do you qualify for this status. You'll need to adjust status to be eligible, legally. when it comes to opening a bank account online, you are considered non-resident. but fortunately, when it comes to paying your taxes, you are a resident. LOL. luck. Go to the branch ... The online system is obsolete CommentsThere are no comments.Leave a Comment | Newest My Friends |
