Card Debt ReliefPosted on March 14, 2010. What is the best method for consumer credit card debt relief? We started a program of "consumer credit counselors" This progarm us pay the consumer credit counselors, they pay the credit cards each month. All they do is lower some interest rates. They do not negotiate the amount owed. The payments are too high for us, so we looked into other alternatives. We found a company that will do it differently for less. They have you pay into an escrow account, and they pay for each individual credit card. They say they negotiate lower balances and interest rates. The payment will be lower and the time gain halved. Does anyone know of any reason we should not do that? Are there other ways to better? WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO GET DEBT RELIEF FOR CONSUMERS without loans? I am not saying that the debt settlement / negotiation is the wrong way. However, this can damage the extra credit. Ask them if it will affect your credit rating too. I know a couple who did it and they paid their bills in about 3 years. Oh, and whether they are a nonprofit organization. If so, you may be able to write off what you pay them from your taxes. I think you should read these articles: Be very careful with these credit counseling companies and debt management. Some will not make your payments so you can get behind. Once behind, the management company debt will try to settle your debt. This will completely trash your credit! Why pay when you can contact your credit card company yourself and accept what they are going to make you pay. They negotiate ... they just want their money and they would.
