College Investment Calculator

College Investment CalculatorWhat calculator should I get for college?

I will be a freshman (the current planning in nursing) in the fall and need a calculator. IT 89 is strongly recommended for majors in mathematics, but it's quite expensive. We have a TI 85 My father used when he went to college, but I find obscure. The TI 89 version used frequently in college or is there an earlier version that could be used instead? Is it also an investment for my 2 younger brothers? (22 months and 6 years younger)

I'm in college and I use the TI 89 Titanium. I love it! It makes math so easy. You will not regret it. Try to find one on Amazon. I found one there for the same price as the TI 83 or 84.

I would not buy a calculator unless you are told exactly what to buy for the courses you take. I know a number of professors and departments that require a specific simulator. They are often listed with the necessary textbooks for the program. It is also true that the calculators seem to change fairly regularly, rendering obsolete some of them. Frankly, I would wait until you are in college and register for courses. Bring money with you, and purchase what you need, rather than trying to be overprepared. Whether that would work for your brothers, it is possible that we could use it anymore, but it depends on what he ended up studying and where. As the youngest, six years is a long time for electronics to be useful. For all you know, when he goes to college, these things will be available as applications on whatever the successor to the iPhone is at this time.

I currently own a TI-89 Titanium and I really like this calculator, but I've used for my last year in college. From high school until my senior year of college, I used the TI-83 Plus (total of 6 years). I just bought a new because my old was damaged in my luggage on international flights. The 89 is very powerful and is useful in engineering because of features such as unit conversion, but the 83 old I had served me well for my classes more intensive (calculus, physics, mechanics, fluids, thermodynamics, circuits, etc..) I replaced the 83 with about 89 because I thought that since I'm on my way to the engineering profession I need the best calculator, but now that I past year, I do not think it was really necessary. So, I recommend the TI-83 or TI-84.

The TI-89 is only really useful if you are going to take calculus and advanced courses in mathematics, and nursing students are not expected to take calculus. You'd be with a TI-83.
