Highest Interest Rate Checking

I want to open a current account and allow interest to accrue. What banks offer the highest interest rates now?

Checking accounts do not accrue interest and savings accounts ... have such a rate now ... they might as well take any interest either.

Go to bankrate.com to find the fares. It changes constantly and there is no way to say this one offers the highest rate when tomorrow it might be another bank.

Bankrate.com is a great site, but it lacks the smaller community banks or credit unions.

I know of at least three credit unions in the Northwest who pay extremely high rates (up to 6%) on current accounts. There are some restrictions, such as the requirement for direct deposit and other electronic transactions, but it's probably worth it.

Checking accounts pay less interest than savings or money market accounts. Many checking accounts pay no interest. You should consider opening both at the same bank so you can keep your money in MMA and transfer (up to 6 times per month), when you need it. Some MMA allows you to write checks to six per month.

Go online and check their accounts ING orange. They typically require an initial deposit low, low minimum balance and no fees.

Check bankrate.com. They classify the accounts by apy, costs, the minimum deposit, etc.

Keep track of the best accounts and the best rates can be a full-time job. I recommend you use bankrate.com. less leg work for you and interest rates higher, hope, luck!
