Is a promissory note shall become null and void by the marriage? My soon ex-husband signed a promissory note to me before we married. His lawyer said he was before marriage and no longer counts. I live in Iowa, nobody knows the law reqarding this issue? Please help!
A note promisorry can be overruled by a judge.
It depends on what has been promised to you. For example, if something could be considered a common good has been given to you as a gift or promise to you in this note, it is still valid.
Second opinion, especially when lawyers are involved may be expensive, but tend to be a good idea.
I'm not 100% ... but I'm pretty sure because it was signed before marriage, it is still standing. If it had been signed while you were married, it would be zero. Check with your lawyer.
