Director of basketball operations Craig Smith is no newcomer to the game of basketball. With a degree in secondary education and a master's degree in teaching and learning, Smith began his collegiate coaching career in 1996. Before that, Smith was a graduate assistant at the University of Northern State, an assistant coach at both the University Minot State University and North Dakota.

In 2004-2005, Smith revived the NAIA National Tournament II and was named the NAIA II National Coach of the Year in 2007. In 2006 and 2007, Smith also won the Dakota Athletic Conference coach of the year. Smith will be director of basketball operations for a second season with the Rams CSU this year. Last year, Smith has helped the players on the field and also made all arrangements outside the ground.
