Safe Savings

My wife and I have our life savings (about £ 80,000) in savings Chelsea building society account. Building societies are safer than banks like Bradford & Bingley and Halifax Bank of Scotland for example?

The government guarantees savings up to £ 30.00 at present, there is a proposal that should be raised to £ 50,000, after which you can get some, all or nothing back, but this is not guaranteed by anyone.

If Chelsea default now you would be guaranteed £ 35,000 .. I do not think you can count on two people named on account of raising the threshold of £ 70,000. I do not think you can ask several accounts .. I think its 30,000 per person per instituitions.

If I were you Id spread the money around various construction companies in packages no bigger than a guarantee ... in your case, I say 3 conisder construction companies and to not more than 30,000 in any society, and examine it.

Talk to a building society .. they should be able to tell you.

One thing to note the guarantee applies only to accounts of UK managed by the organization registered in the United Kingdom. So Im not sure that will cover you for ING Direct, or an account in the United Kingdom and others not, and does not cover you for a tiny device bank or other financial institution such as Western Union or branches banks as other countries.

they are safe where they are the custom of the government to allow that to happen and you lose money because the country will come to a stand still .. do not worry about it, it is safe in your bank if you are worried about putting in HSBC because they are biggesst bank in the United Kingdom and the 3rd in the world there is no need to s' worry about this issue then hope u I moved
