Homeschool Record Keeping and transcripts are essential for the College Scholarship Outstanding Student Award Homeschool loses - No GPA - Parent Cries
future of your children and your financial future depends on how you keep your Homeschool Records and transcripts. There are ongoing discussions in the homeschool community on the importance of keeping records, notes and transcripts for each student.
Rather than tell you my opinion, I want to tell you a story ...
Joel had been a student since kindergarten homeschool. He was an exceptional student with a passion for learning, an incredible ability to reason, and a true gift for writing. Unfortunately, his parents had attended a homeschool convention when he was still in college and have been informed that the notes are not important on the transcript homeschool. In fact, they could simply choose to use a pass / fail "system's transcript rather than the classification of each mission. It seemed so much easier than keeping notes of their children homeschooled!
When they decided the house without worrying about grades, they had no idea that grades are important when it comes to fund scholarships!
When Joel graduated, he took the SAT and scored above the 97th percentile in English and 96 in math. Colleges and universities have been excited about signing up! In fact, they were willing to provide funding for scholarships in order to create interest in their institution.
But they had a problem, the transcript. . .
Without GPA, they were limited in the amount of the scholarship they could offer. And without notes on transcription, it was impossible to provide a GPA.
Did his lack of qualifications affect its ability to get into college?
No!
But it was an important factor in the cost it would incur when he attended college.
I met Joel's mother shortly after she heard the news. And you know what she said?
"I wish that I knew would be important grades when it comes to scholarships."
For this student, who has worked with an appraiser homeschool and do everything else with the books, records and transcripts become extremely important. Fortunately, because we worked together from the beginning of Joel's career from high school, we were able to go back and provide the classification for these homeschool assignments that I had reviewed over the years. Joel's mom now understood the importance of grades on a transcript and I guarantee it will be the classification of tests and record keeping for its other homeschool students.
If you take nothing home with you after reading this article, please remember this: colleges and universities rely on OPA when it comes to fund scholarships for higher education. Therefore, your child's eligibility for the scholarships include a transcript with a grade point average.
Joel is not the only homeschool who has faced this difficulty with his Homeschool Records and transcription. I have worked with many homeschooling families in similar situations, some of which have heard my exhortations on the importance of careful record keeping. However, they have also been falsely informed that the transcript is not really important. After many outstanding students with the opportunity to homeschool transcript impressive lost the opportunity to capitalize on their academic performance.
I do not want you're in the same situation. If you are homeschooling or using a correspondence course, please take the time and energy on specific issues today for tomorrow, the impact of your child. The amount of time it takes to keep records is nothing compared to the monetary value of a grant or fellowship may save you and your student.
